never a dull moment

within the last two days i've the privilege of having the Spirit stir my heart through the words of francis chan (a whoppin' 3 messages!). then at lunch this afternoon i sought out people who looked like they would enjoy a nice game of street hockey. yes, street hockey, by invitation of metro. funny how people will drop all their plans for the day, at a moments notice, to do the unexpected; to the point of not even asking who else is going until after he/she committed. during the 2nd of the 3 games at a granite hills tennis court, i received a hard shot in the lower leg (right above where the protection of the rollerblades ends and my vulnerable epidermis begins). the veins instantly became inflamed and began to protrude from their under-the-skin dwelling to two lumps on my epidermis. i now carry as a spectacular souvenir the gnarliest and most painful contusion i've ever had. after supper a few from my group of (aviation) friends decided to fly from gillespie field to biola all for the fun of watching the hawk vs. eagle b-ball game. jon morse, adam, matt, and i had an adventure of our own in alpine. not long after arriving back to chc, there was a knock at my door. and who's presence was i blessed with? none other than the world's greatest RD, krista! after gaining my composure at such a most welcomed surprised, out of breath from her 2.2 second sprint from across campus, perfect sentences including the words: live, rat, and joke, all flowed from her lips. the story continues with a rat's head being caught in a trap, still fully alive and making its way around her kitchen floor in effort to escape. her cell phone was dead and she needed mine to contact the guy RD to get rid of the large vermin. tyler was out with his fiancee, so i called jon morse to come to the rescue. the smile on jon's face while he held the rat (for an extended amount of time) by the trap over a trash can while the girls screamed and the rat squirmed gave evidence that that was the best part of his entire evening. with the rat in the can making somewhat of a verbal noise of its intense suffering, jon and i stood over it outside in the brisk cold of the night. we laughed as we contemplated the best way to kill it. after ideas such as running over it with a car, stabbing it with a knife, or catching the stray cat (that was twenty feet from us) and placing it in the trash can as well, jon ran to get his knife and came back with not only his knife but a large brick. he threw the brick at houdini's brother and consummated its misery.
i chuckle at the thought that tomorrow begins early with a "country style" breakfast, in the company of the guys, in alpine. without a doubt this will be another adventure to add to the memory bank of the hilarious glory days of college. :)

I am so thankful you've received a worse contusion than the one I gave you in Indiana! Secondly, I would like to express my pride in Krista for not freaking out like a girl over an uber-rat of atypical strength and ability.

there is still faint evidence of the contusion i received when you tackled me over snow covered rocks near an indiana railroad track...and i've come to the conclusion that the hockey ball contusion gets the gnarliest award whereas yours gets the most post-painful award. haha. and yes krista is the bravest woman we know. ;)
