sadie hawkins

i was beginning to despise chc's annual sadie hawkins picnic. even more so, despising the question "sonia, who are you going to ask?" the girl asks the guy, she pays, picks the "matching" outfits, and they enjoy food and fellowship with friends, this year at seaport village. for the past two years, it's been a blast. however, this year it's been more of a deleterious parasite than anything else. for one, the girls on my hall feel compelled to tell me who they are asking, which i don't mind, yet at the same time, this narrows my options; as their RA and friend it would be hecka wrong for me to ask the guy of their choice (especially if she gets denied). now, asking a guy is tricky b/c i've learned that i cannot ask a guy who i rarely chat with, for they tend to get the wrong "idea". so that leaves "good" guy friends...be that as it may, my "good" guy friends are popular choices for the girls on my hall. bummer. oh but tonight at the lip sync, i stepped out of my golden retriever temperament. for the last act, the activities cabinet choreographed their own version of relient k's sadie hawkins dance. despite much "who to take?" contemplation, a spur of the moment decision changed this pathetic sadie hawkins perspective. when at the end of the song, i stepped in front of the activity members hiding behind "ask dudes!" placards, and stated in front of a packed campus chapel with microphone in hand: "i thought i'd help activities advertise and get the ball rolling, so Cameron will you go to sadie hawkins with me?" instantly the room roared with screams and my friend (and lip sync judge) Cameron with blushful nods said yes. quite the adrenaline rush! the funniest part was afterward watching guys go up to him and congratulate him. after all of the props, i walked salsa, arrow, and their sadies dates spike and jig out to the car, they went out for a fun night on the town, but b/c of RA responsibilities, i am here in the RA office sitting desk and pondering possible "matching" outfits.
